I planted Blue Lake beans on the left and some mystery sprouts on the right. I say mystery because these sprouts were growing profusely in my compost pile and I thought I would put them here and see what happens. They are either cucumbers, watermelon, cantaloupe or, most likely, a decorative gourd. Which would be nice in the Fall if they make it.
Here is a close up of the blocks.
This is why I love blog-land, all of the wonderfully creative ideas. Thanks Rhoda!
What a great idea! Hope they all thrive :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so happy you tried it too, You can thank my hubby for that idea. He is the garden man around here & I'm so happy he enjoys it. Hope you get LOTS of bounty this year!
ReplyDeleteHello! I know this post is old, but I can't help but wonder how the plants in the blocks turned out. I am thinking about planting some cantaloupe in a few cinderblock holes, and would love to know how your melons/cucumbers in the blocks turned out!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous: Thanks for visiting. The cinderblock holes worked well until we were hit with a heat wave that essentially cooked the roots of the bean plants. I will try it again this season. The overall design is good because our soil is so poor here. I just have to be more vigilant when the weather heats up.
